What a vCard QR code does
A vCard code stores your contact details inside the pattern itself: first and last name, company, job title, phone, email, website and address. When someone scans it, their phone offers to create a new contact with everything filled in.
Because the details are in the code, it keeps working forever and doesn't depend on any website, including ours.
Static vCard or a link to your profile?
A static vCard is best when your details rarely change. The trade-off is that you can't edit it after printing: a new phone number means a new code.
If you change jobs or numbers often, point a dynamic code at an online profile (LinkedIn, your website's contact page) and update that page instead.
Design tips for cards
Business cards are small, so the code has to work at close range:
- Keep it at least 2 cm (0.8 in) square. Fewer fields make a less dense code that scans more easily.
- Put it on the back of the card with a short line like "Scan to save my contact".
- Use dark ink on a light card stock and keep the margin around the code clear.
